Profile
Footprint
Environmental Strategies is a sole proprietorship established
in 1997 in Kelowna, BC. In 1998, we relocated to Smithers,
located in the beautiful Bulkley Valley of northwestern BC. While
we service the entire province of BC, most of our projects benefit
interior communities with tourism and resource-based economies.

The
Footprint Team
As of
January 2005, Footprint is a solo performance with teams being
built as needed for each project. Over the years, our average
team size has been three, and we have sponsored internships through
the Canadian Council of Human Resources for the Environment Industry
(CCHREI). Our team members come from a wide variety of backgrounds,
including environmental and civic engineering, biology, ecology,
business adminstration, marketing, accounting, education, and
community development. The principal and founder of Footprint
is Laurie Gallant - her bio is below.

Bio
for Ms. Laurie Gallant, BES
Business
Manager and Environmental Planner
The
world is a big place and I'm glad I've found my place in
it. I enjoy the projects that Footprint allows me to create
and contribute to. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be
on a learning curve everyday, and to apply my experience
and knowledge to make steady progress towards a zero waste
goal.
I
majored in geography at the University of Waterloo, following
up on a positive high school experience (thank you Mr. Wallace
for your World Issues course). My entry into environmental
planning and specifically recycling began with a "marketing
coordinator" position with a non-profit recycling operation.
Armed with a phone book and a phone, a pen and a sketchpad,
I got to work. Humble beginnings that taught me the value
of public education and working on a low budget! The budgets
did eventually get bigger as I moved into the corporate
world of Metro Toronto and learned the value of the power
suit and powerpoint presentations.
Relocating
to BC in 1992, the strategic use of policies and economic
incentives in diverting wasted resources from landfills
became my new tools. My 4 year stint as waste reduction
coordinator for Central Okanagan Regional District opened
my eyes to integrated planning, media relations and negotiations
with contractors. Lucky for me, since the next stop on my
career path called on all of these skills, not to mention
every professional contact I'd ever had since graduating.
In my spare time
I love to travel, meet new people, test my assumptions and
beliefs, garden, and just hang out with the planet. Cheers!
